El Paso is Paid by Beto, Stiffed by Trump
June 2019 - Is this really surprising to anyone who knows Mr. Trump's ethics and his history? Here are the details behind the story:
On February 11, Donald Trump held a political rally in El Paso to promote the building of a border wall with Mexico. On March 30, Beto O'Rourke held a political rally in El Paso to kick off his 2020 Presidential campaign Beto's campaign paid the city for the police support services it provided at his rally. The Trump campaign has not.
According to a Good Morning America story and El Paso newspaper reports, the city of El Paso billed the O'Roarke campaign $21k (less their initial $7k deposit), for the police assistance at his rally. Payment was due May 24 and the campaign cut a check to the city on May 23rd.

The city also billed the Trump campaign $470k for assistance provided by six city departments, most of which was for police services. The bill was due April 26. When no payment was received by that date, the city sent a follow up letter indicating that a one-time 21% late fee would be charged if payment was not received by late June.
So far, no payment from Mr. Trump. A campaign spokesman said the invoice is being reviewed.
As we said previously, is that really surprising? Mr. Trump has a history of not paying contractors for billed amounts, paying less than the amounts billed, and not being forthcoming until his creditor files suit. At which point he may (as he done multiple times in the past) file for bankruptcy.
As for the residents of El Paso, you've probably got other issues you'd like the city to be focused on and spending your tax dollars on. But be prepared to subsidize the Trump campaign for these non-budgeted expenses because, if he refuses to pay up, you will.
