Trump's Sister Calls Him A Cruel Liar with No Principles
August 2020 - Maryanne Trump-Barry is the older sister of Donald Trump. Until last year, Ms. Barry was a Federal Appeals Court judge in Philadelphia. She was first appointed to the bench in the 1980's by Ronald Reagan.
Some very unflattering opinions and feelings toward her brother Donald were publicized this past week when Mary Trump (niece to both Donald Trump and Maryanne Trump-Barry) released transcripts of a taped conversation Ms. Trump had with her aunt. The conversation was taped as Mary Trump was researching her recent book about Donald Trump, "Too Much and Never Enough".
In those conversations, Judge Barry made the following comments about her brother Donald. Her comments were published by numerous online publications, including Politico, USA Today, and Slate Magazine:

- "All he wants to do is appeal to his base….He has no principles. None." Ms. Barry went on to question the evangelical supporters of Mr. Trump given "what they {the Trump administration} are doing with kids at the border" and evangelicals' ostensible desire to "help people."
- "You can't trust him….Donald is out for Donald, period." These statements were made when Judge Barry was discussing Mr. Trump's "five bankruptcies". She later added he has never accomplished anything on his own merits (including having had her do his homework and someone else take his college entrance exams) and then telling the story that at their father's funeral, Mr. Trump was the only speaker who did not talk about their father.
- "He goes to a September 11th memorial and he sees a crowd and he fist pumps." Judge Barry stated that Mr. Trump "doesn't understand" concepts like dignity.
- "His damn tweet{s} and the lying, oh my God. I'm talking too freely, but you know. The change of stories. The lack of preparation. The lying. Holy s**t."
- When asked by Mary Trump, "What has he read?", Ms. Barry replied "No, he doesn't read," later relating a story in which her brother was incredulous that she reads books rather than watch Fox News.
- Lastly, Ms. Barry said that the problems Mr. Trump's presidency has brought to the family won't end "until he's out of there" and that she hopes Mr. Trump's presidency ends soon.
These comments are consistent with those of almost everyone who has spent any significant amount of time with Mr. Trump. At some point, those supporters of Mr. Trump who want to denigrate any former Trump associate or family member who is critical of him should consider the old adage, "If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it probably is a duck."
